Blaze's Journey

Chapter 1 – The Awakening

“See you this afternoon dad!”

“Okay honey!”

Blaze put on her small backpack as she roller-skated down the streets of Pokey Oaks North. Her hair blew in the wind as she skated at her normal, fast pace. She always liked having fun before those dreading hours of class. Her favourite subject was definitely lunch.

When she arrived at Pokey Oaks Junior High, she took her roller-skates off and carried them into the school building. She travelled up the stairs and finally got to her locker. She placed her skates in the bottom and shut the locker. She then walked off to her classroom, greeting some of the people she passed by. As she reached the door of her classroom, she was knocked down by someone.

“Oh, sorry Blaze.”

Blaze looked up to see the familiar face one of her best friends, Cody McAllister. He was always rushing to get to class on time. He usually came after Blaze did and it was usually a miracle if he came any earlier.

“That’s okay Cody. Just be glad you got to class on time.” Blaze smirked as she and Cody walked into the classroom.

“Hey guys!”

Blaze and Cody looked to the other side of the classroom to see their other friend Cassie Cahill waving at them from across the room. They walked towards her and began to chat with her. Half way through the conversation however, Blaze got distracted.

“Then I... Blaze! Are you looking at Jason again?!” Cassie asked, smirking.

“Shhh! Not so loud,” Blaze whispered. “He might hear you!”

“Why is he always the one the girls want? What’s so special about him?” Cody asked angrily.

Blaze only ignored him as she stared lovingly at Jason, so Cassie answered for her. “Well, Blaze said that he was funny, cute, smart, sweet and everything else a girl dreams of.”

Blaze turned around. “And don’t you forget it.” She turned back to admiring Jason as Cody scowled.

When the teacher walked in, everyone hastily sat down in their seats and waited for the teacher to begin speaking. The teacher didn’t get the chance though, as a big green thing slammed into the window, breaking it. It landed on the desk in the very middle of the classroom. The girl at that particular desk screamed and stood up as quick as she could. Blaze looked out the window to see something green in the sky. It was so far away she had to squint to see it. She gasped when she saw what it was.

“What’s wrong?” Cassie asked from behind her. She looked out the window and went through the same procedure as Blaze. She, like her friend, gasped as she realised what it was as well. She fell out of her chair from shock and landed on the ground with a thud.

“We must evacuate the building, quickly!” their teacher ordered.

Everyone ran out of the classroom and through the corridors of the school. Blaze saw all the other classes running into the corridors as they went past. Most of the faster runners were at the front, with a few smarter ones at the back in case someone got injured and had to be carried out as soon as possible. As Blaze rounded the corner, she saw her friend Blossom.

“Hey, Blossom, you’re a superhero. Do you think this is the work of any villain you know?” she asked.

Blossom shook her head. “No, I have absolutely no idea. Besides, no villain I know has their own planet.”

Blaze nodded. “Good point.”

They finally reached the entrance of the school building and gathered near the front. Blaze gasped at what she saw. There was now a form of green slime oozing out of all the windows and doors and there were several big blobs that had formed on separate areas of the school. Blaze watched as she saw a red haired boy put down some disks around the perimeter. A second after he put them down, the disks would create a barrier around the school.

“Hey Blossom, who’s that kid?” Blaze asked. “I recognise him, but I don’t remember his name.”

“Oh, that’s Dexter McPherson. He’s a genius. I think he might even be smarter than my father,” Blossom replied.

“McPherson, huh? Is that girl, Dee Dee related to him?” Blaze asked.

“Yeah, though I wonder how? Maybe their parents are different in intelligence or something like that,” Blossom replied.

“Everyone! We’ve been told to take refuge in the Cul-De-Sac or down at City Station and City Hall by the Kids Next Door. We must go quickly!” a student ordered with the help of a microphone.

Everyone instantly ran to the areas they wanted to go to. Most of the students ran to the Downtown areas where there was a lot more space. Only about twenty students ran to the Cul-De-Sac. Blaze saw Blossom have a brief conversation with Bubbles before flying to her side. Bubbles headed in the direction of Downtown, leaving her signature blue streak behind her.

“What was all that about?” Blaze inquired.

“I’m going to watch over the Suburbs while Bubbles goes Downtown. It’s our duty to protect everyone from the evil that’s coming to us. I hope dad’s alright...”

Blaze smiled reassuringly. “I’m sure he is Blossom. He’s smart. He is a scientist after all.”

Blaze arrived at the Cul-De-Sac and was surprised to see a huge cardboard fortress surrounding it. There were two faces on the two cardboard doors, obviously painted on. Blaze ran inside through the small gap and looked around at her surroundings. She’d been at the Cul-De-Sac a few times, but it looked different every time she was there. This time there were a few small shops set up. There was a red throne sitting on top of a few cardboard boxes and leading up to it a red carpet.

“What’s this for?” Blaze wondered aloud. It was then she heard a voice coming from the centre of the Cul-De-Sac.

“Get your battle armour and weapons here! Buy ten and get a jawbreaker for an extra dollar!”

Blaze walked closer and realised the source of the voice was coming from a short boy with only three hairs on his head. He had a weird grin on his face and he kept yelling about armour, weapons and jawbreakers. Next to the throne, a boy with a black sock for a hat was looking nervous as he looked on at his friend. Blaze walked the red carpet to the boy on the throne. She put her hands on her hips.

“Ten? Extra Dollar? That’s not a bargain!”

The boy with the sock hat sighed. “I told you they wouldn’t fall for it Eddy. It’s just too obvious!”

The boy Blaze presumed was “Eddy” turned to her. “You’re one of the smart ones; I bet heaps of people will fall for this!”

Blaze rolled her eyes. “I’m going to take that as a compliment.”

She walked away to a far corner of the Cul-De-Sac and sat down. She suddenly felt exhausted. Drowning out all the noise, she stretched her arms out and fell asleep.

Chapter 2 – The Battle of Peach Creek

Blaze woke up in a room she didn’t recognise. She sat up and looked around. She was in someone’s bedroom. The walls were decorated with Rainbow Monkey posters and the room was full of the aforementioned brand of stuffed toys. There were so many, she wondered how anyone got around in there.

“Oh, you’re awake!”

Blaze turned her head to look at the doorway. There was a Japanese girl with long black hair and a green sweater which was a bit too big for her. Blaze knew this girl very well as she used to be an honorary member of the Kids Next Door. She had never gotten her memories erased though, because she was one of the special, loyal ones.

“Oh, hey Numbuh 3. Where am I?” Blaze asked.

Numbuh 3 giggled. “In my room in the Sector V Tree house silly!”

Blaze nodded her head slowly. “Yeah... But why?”

“There’s a battle going down in Peach Creek Commons so we evacuated everyone from that area that wasn’t fighting. Mostly everyone was fighting except for those who were resting, like you, or young ones,” Numbuh 3 replied, never letting her happy and optimistic nature falter for a second.

“Oh, about how many people are here that are my age?” Blaze wanted to know if her two friends were around anywhere. She had lost them in the corridors of the school due to the big rush and large number of people.

“Umm, only two. I believe their names are Cassie and Cody,” Numbuh 3 answered. “They asked me about you. I said that you were resting and I’d tell you that they asked about you. Do you want to go see them?”

Blaze almost stood up and almost jumped on Numbuh 3’s bed. She hadn’t been worried about Cassie and Cody until Numbuh 3 mentioned the battle. She would take any chance she got to go see them before the war started getting ugly. She stood up as Numbuh 3 led her to the TV room where her two best friends were sitting and watching TV. Blaze quietly snuck up behind then and covered their eyes with her hands.

“Guess who!”

“Blaze!” Cassie leapt off the couch and tackled Blaze to the ground. “I was so worried about you! We both were!”

“Yeah, we were worried when we lost you at the school,” Cody agreed as he hugged Blaze after he had managed to get Cassie off her.

“Yeah, well I fell asleep because I was so exhausted. The next thing I knew I was in Numbuh 3’s bed,” Blaze chuckled.

“Breaking news! Battle in Peach Creek Commons!”

The trio watched as Numbuh 10 gave out the scoop on the battle. She showed some footage of the battle and it did not look good. One of the KND news reporters was trying to interview Numbuh 5, but she was too busy fighting off the monsters to reply to their questions.

“Wow...” Blaze breathed. Her look suddenly changed from shocked to determined as she got an idea. “I’m going to help them.”

“What! But it’s dangerous! Besides, what are you going to fight with?” Cassie asked.

“We can help with that!” Numbuh 3 giggled as she and Numbuh 4 carried in big boxes full of weapons.

“Wow, there must be heaps in here!” Cody exclaimed.

“Help yourself,” said Numbuh 4. “Numbuh 3 and I have to go help Numbuh 2 with the-”

“Preparing lockdown stage. Prepare for lockdown!”

“Uh oh, that’s not good!” Numbuh 3 exclaimed worriedly. She then ran off in the direction of the main room. “Numbuh 2! What’s going on?”

“I don’t know! The computer just randomly prepared for a lockdown!” Numbuh 2 was frantically typing on the keyboard.

“Lockdown complete.”

“Are we still able to go outside?” Blaze asked Numbuh 2.

Numbuh 2 looked up from the computer. “Yeah, but enemies can’t get inside. If someone wants to get inside, they have to verify themselves first.”

“Okay, I’m going out to help down at Peach Creek Commons to help out in the battle.”
Blaze rushed over to the boxes of weapons and took out a pistol. It was mostly blue with a few hints of black on it. Blaze looked down and saw Cody take out a sword. It was silver and shiny. They both turned to Cassie, but she didn’t get anything out of the box.

“Remember? Martial arts training? Does that ring a bell?” Cassie prodded. Blaze and Cody nodded their heads.

“Come on, let’s go,” said Blaze. The trio ran out of the tree house and took one of the Scampers to the Cul-De-Sac. When they got there, the place was actually still intact. Everything was as it was before.

“Huh? It must be outside of the Cul-De-Sac...” Blaze trailed off as she heard yelling coming from outside the cardboard fortress. She ran out of the safety of the barrier and saw the mess that had been made. There were broken buildings, holes in the ground and even a couple of traces of blood.

“Watch out!”

Blaze quickly dodged one of the monsters. She looked up to see who had called out to her. In front of her was a bald boy with black sunglasses and a red sweater. He had a serious look on his face.

Blaze smiled thankfully. “Thanks Numbuh 1.”

“Don’t mention it Blaze.” Numbuh 1 looked up and smiled lightly. “The monsters are all gone.”

“Yeah, but for how long?” Blaze muttered.

Beep! Beep! Beep!

Numbuh 1 looked down at his pocket and took out something that looked like a communicator and drifted away a bit from the crowd of people. Numbuh 1 listened into the communicator first before speaking into it. Blaze couldn’t hear what was being said, but she had a feeling it was urgent as Numbuh 1’s eyes widened. He quickly shoved the communicator back into his pocket and grabbed a megaphone that was lying on the side of the road.

“Everyone! Please go to the Command Centre Downtown. This is urgent. Please, go now!” Numbuh 1 shouted.

Cassie ran up to Blaze. “I wonder what’s going on...”

Cody ran up behind them. “I have no idea, but Numbuh 1 did say it was urgent, so we’d better get moving.

Chapter 3 - The Leaders

The command Centre was filled with people. Many of them came from Peach Creek Commons and some came from other areas. Blaze glanced up at the stage where the people she assumed were the speakers or leaders were. She recognized Numbuh 1, Blossom, Dexter and the boy with the black sock hat. There was also a short girl with blonde hair, a pink dress and an angry expression that meant business and a teenage boy with light brown hair and a green jacket.

Numbuh 1 tapped the microphone to make sure it was on. It sent out a loud screeching noise that echoed through the hall. The audience blocked their ears until the sound stopped. Finally, Numbuh 1 began speaking.

“Hello, ladies, gentlemen, boys and girls. I know you’ve noticed that there have been very strange and bizarre monsters around the area. Well, after some research by Dexter McPherson, we have found that we are... We’re...” Numbuh 1 struggled to find the right words.

The short, blonde girl took the microphone. “We’re being invaded and attacked by aliens, people!”

The hall began being filled with whispers. Blaze looked up at the stage where Numbuh 1 and the blonde girl were arguing. Blossom floated so that she was between the two and stopped them from arguing. After a small prep talk from the lead Powerpuff girl, Numbuh 1 stepped up to the microphone again.

“Uh, yes, Mandy was right. We are being invaded by aliens, but do not panic. We will fight back and save our planet!” Numbuh 1 paused. “Meanwhile, we have a few people who would like to speak to you. We have Dexter, Blossom who is representing her father Professor Utonium, Mandy, Ben and Double D.”

Numbuh 1 stepped away from the microphone and sat down in the empty seat on the stage. Blossom stood up and floated towards the microphone. She cleared her throat before speaking.

“My father couldn’t be here today so I am here to speak for him. My dad, Professor Utonium, will be working in the research lab along with a few other experienced scientists. He will study the green goo that has infected many places. That is all, thank you.” The audience clapped as Blossom returned to her seat.

The next person to stand up and move towards the microphone was the brunette boy in the green jacket. To Blaze, he seemed that he was hiding some excitement as well as nerves.

“Hi, I’m Ben Tennyson and my cousin Gwen, Grandpa Max and I have experience in aliens and what technology they use. We’ll be helping with that sort of stuff-”

Ben was bewildered when Mandy took the microphone out of his hands. “Okay, let’s make this short. I am in charge of keeping order, Sockhead is in charge of communication and Dorkster over there is working on technology.”

Dexter stood up. “Yes. We have the tools, you’ve got the talent!”

Everyone erupted in cheers, including Blaze, Cassie and Cody. Blaze was happy to see something positive happen. She needed something to really lift her spirits. As she looked around she saw one boy who wasn’t cheering. He was only standing there with his arms folded. His expression was hard to read. Blaze walked over to him.

“Uh, why aren’t you cheering?” she asked.

The boy slowly looked up and sighed. “No reason, I just miss my family, I guess. The name’s Mikey.”

“I’m Blaze. I understand what you’re feeling. I miss my dad too.”

“Hey Blaze, who are ya talking to, huh?” Cassie bounded over towards them.

“Oh, hey Cass, this is Mikey. Mikey, this is Cassie, one of my best friends,” Blaze introduced as Cody came up to them. “And this is my other best friend, Cody.”

“Nice to meet you,” Cassie and Cody said in unison. Mikey smiled.

Blaze heard a rumbling noise coming from just below her. She thought the ground was beginning to crack, but she saw no evidence of it as she looked down. When the sound reached her ears again, she realised it was not the earth falling to pieces, but only the sound of her hungry stomach. She patted her stomach and looked up at the others.

“I need food. Now.”

“Can I come?” Mikey asked. “I don’t want to impose or anything...”

“Sure!” Cassie replied cheerfully.

They made their way out of the doors of the Command Centre and looked around for somewhere to eat. They eventually found a spot that wasn’t packed and crowded with people. In fact, it was quite empty. They sat down at one of the outside tables and ordered their food.

Blaze noticed that Cassie was extremely cheerful and kept interacting with Mikey. She smirked and whispered to Cody, “Cassie has a crush,” in a singing type voice. Cody chuckled softly.

“So, Mikey, where are you from?” Cassie asked sweetly.

“I’m from around Genius Grove, but I’m home schooled,” Mikey answered.

“Really? How come?” Cody asked.

“Well... It’s complicated. Let’s just say my parents are a little overprotective of me.” Mikey kept his head down, not eyeing any of his new friends.

“Oh, I see,” Cassie nodded her head in understanding.

“Speaking of parents, do you know where our parents could be?” Blaze asked.

The others shook their heads. Cassie looked down. “I miss them,” she sighed as she let out a sniff. Mikey put an arm around her to comfort her.

“I know, but-” Cody stopped as the ground began to shake.

“I don’t think this is my stomach this time!” Blaze yelled over the noise.

Blaze looked out the window and saw green lasers being fired quite a distance away. The rumbling had stopped, but she didn’t know for how long. From the area that was being attacked, she could see green smoke coming up from the ground. Or, at least what looked like the ground, since she couldn’t see over all the tops of the buildings that were blocking her way. She could hear screams and people shouting over the top of gunfire and roaring of monsters.

“Blaze, I’m going out there to fight.”

Blaze turned around to see Cody with a determined look on his face. His hands were placed at the grip of the sword, which was tucked into his belt. He seemed keen to fight, even if it killed him.

“Okay, but I’m going with you,” said Blaze as she took out her pistol from her backpack.

“Count us in!” Cassie exclaimed enthusiastically. Mikey nodded as he held a bow and a set of arrows in his hands.

“Then let’s go.” Blaze ran out the door and heard the others’ footsteps behind her.

Loved how you used "We've got the tools, you've got the talent", that was great Blaze, keep it up!

Character Bios

Blaze Coral

A red haired girl seeking adventure, she jumped immediately into the risk of her life: Fighting Fuse’s forces. She’s worried about her father, who she can’t get into contact with, and her mother and little brother who live in Endsville. Her parents are in the middle of a divorce. She is completely oblivious to the feelings Cody has for her and instead turns her head towards Jason, the most popular boy in school. She is an honorary KND operative.

Cody McAllister

Blaze’s childhood friend, he has been by her side since the age of 5. He decided to fight against Fuse not only to protect Earth but secretly to protect Blaze as well. He likes Blaze, who has no idea about his feelings. He treats Blaze’s younger brother as if he was his own younger brother, teaching him fighting techniques.

Cassie Cahill

Cassie is the energetic, positive side of the group. If you first met Cassie, you’d think she was a klutz, but she has extremely good balance and coordination skills, all thanks to martial arts training. She has a crush on Mikey but would never dare tell him. Her cousin is fighting in the war as well, but in the Wild and Darkland areas.

Mikey Avalon

Mikey is the newest addition to Blaze’s group of friends. He has a slight crush on Cassie, though he hides it well. He hasn’t been outside his house very much, since he’s homeschooled. He has a complicated past which he doesn’t like to speak about. He is very good at hitting targets. Not much else is known about him.

Jason Madelyn

The cutest boy in school, Jason has looks and charm. He has appealed to the majority of the Pokey Oaks students, including Blaze. But underneath all of his cuteness, he holds a deep, dark secret.

Owen Coral

Blaze’s little brother who is missing. People believe his dead body is in the middle of Endsville somewhere, but Blaze hasn’t given up hope that her brother is still alive.

Melody Cahill

Melody is Cassie’s 18 year old cousin who has gone to fight in the Wilds and Darklands. She has been trained to fight in all sorts of ways.
