| Hey everyone, this is my little sister, Jana's, story. This is part one of two.
Something's In The House, Part 1 of 2
One day, a girl named Jenny went to her friend, Kate’s, house to play. They watched cartoons, played a board game, and ended up talking about Jenny’s little brother Jimmy.
“All he does is play video games. He’s SO annoying.” Jenny said, shaking her head. “Yeah, I know what you’re saying,” Kate agreed. “Chris is just as nuts. Do you know what he did yesterday?” “What’d he do?” Jenny asked. “He jumped off the roof with a trash bag!” Kate exclaimed. “What?!” Jenny exclaimed, surprised. “He thought it would be like a parachute.” “Sheesh, your little bro is WAY crazier than Jimmy!”
Soon after that, Jenny said goodbye to her friend and went home. When she got back, she headed toward the door to the kitchen to get a snack. When she opened the door, she saw her mother’s china shattered on the floor.
“Oh, no!” Jenny exclaimed, heading to get the broom out of the pantry. Right as she was about to clean up the mess, her parents walked into the kitchen with groceries. They had just gotten back from the store. Her parents took one look at the expensive china broken to pieces and then a look at her, and their happy moods changed within milliseconds. There was a moment of silence and then Jenny’s father exploded. “What did you do?” He shouted, setting down the bags of groceries. “I- I didn’t-“ Jenny tried to explain, but her mother interrupted. “Jenny, these were expensive. What on Earth were you thinking, playing around in here?” “But, but…” Jenny stammered, trying to explain. “That’s enough. We’ll talk about this later. Go upstairs to your room, you’re grounded.” Her father said, shaking his head. Jenny walked out of the kitchen and up to her room. She was really mad that her parents wouldn’t listen, that she was getting blamed for something Jimmy probably did and wouldn’t fess up to it if it meant getting in trouble. She was so mad, she punched the wall. Then she gave a surprised shout and stepped back as she heard something scurrying back and forth inside the wall. She heard it say something, but it was muffled by the wall. Jenny thought it said something like gerbel murble. She stood there, wondering what that was. Then, when she heard her mother call for dinner, Jenny decided it was just her imagination. ***
That night, Jenny could not get to sleep. She tossed and turned, but couldn’t get comfortable. Jenny couldn’t stop thinking about what ever that thing in the walls was. She knew she had really heard it, that she wasn’t imagining things. Then, she heard the thing running around in the walls again. She tried to ignore, tried to go to sleep. Then she saw something on her dresser. She couldn’t tell what it was in the dark, but she didn’t dare get out of bed. Instead, she grabbed a baseball bat that was right by her bed, gripped it tight, and stared at the thing, hoping it wouldn’t move.
*** The next morning, Jenny woke up to find her room full of sunlight. She had fallen asleep without realizing it. She looked around her bedroom, but saw nothing wrong. Nothing was out of the ordinary. Strange, she thought. Jenny got out of bed and opened her bedroom door. She smelled eggs and bacon, and her stomach growled. She walked downstairs to find her parents and her brother sitting at the dining room table. She stood there awkwardly for a minute, until her dad spoke. “Jenny,” he said, “It seems that we were wrong. Jimmy said that our dogs were running all through out the house playing and fighting yesterday, and that they probably broke the china. We’re sorry for accusing you like that. We should have let you explain.” “It’s okay.” Jenny said. “You’re not grounded, and if you want, you and Jimmy may have a sleepover tonight.” Her mother said. “YAY!” Jenny and Jimmy shouted, in unison. *** Jenny and Jimmy were laying on the floor in their sleeping bags in their playroom. They were telling scary stories, and having a good time. As Jimmy was ending his last story, they heard scuttling in the walls.
“What was that?” Jimmy whispered. “I think it’s that thing I’ve been hearing in the walls.” Jenny whispered back. “What thing?” Jenny was about to explain, but instead grabbed Jimmy’s arm suddenly. “What?” Jimmy hissed, looking around the room, wild eyed. “I felt something on my sleeping bag.” Jenny said in a voice that was barley audible. “What?” Jimmy asked, still confused. “I dunno. Something’s in the house, Jimmy.” Jenny whispered fearfully.
